HURRICANE HERMINE
Since Hurricane Wilma in October of 2005, Florida had not had a hurricane make landfall in the state. On September 2nd, Hurricane Hermine changed this after making landfall in the Florida Panhandle just east of St. Marks. In the Tampa Bay Area, there was heavy rainfall, while there were high winds in northwest Florida, including Tallahassee, which caused many people to lose power. Tallahassee had not been affected by a hurricane since Hurricane Kate in 1985. From Florida, Hermine crossed into Georgia and continued moving northeast, eventually affecting South Carolina, North Carolina, New York, and New England.
Throughout the storm, our company was on call and ready to move at any moment. With three permanent storm center headquarters located in three states, Storm Services maintains an around the clock state of preparation to offer support wherever needed. One of our storm centers is located in Thomasville, Georgia, about 30 miles northeast of Tallahassee, Florida, and was in the path of Hermine. After losing power, our Georgia office continued to run off of our permanent generator so we remained available to our customers. Many of our damage assessor teams were called out to assist customers in multiple states, and base camp services were provided for customers in Georgia.
