THE KEYS AREA INTERDENOMINATIONAL RESOURCE (KAIR)
In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, Storm Services spent time in the hard hit area of Marathon, Florida. We had a base camp site set up there, and some of our Storm Services Engineering crews were based out of the city during their stay. After the storm, we learned of the great work that The Keys Area Interdenominational Resource, also known as KAIR, was doing to help those in need.
Inspired by the good works of KAIR, we are pleased to report that this year, The Storm Services Charitable Fund will be making a donation to The Keys Area Interdenominational Resource. The Storm Services Charitable Fund was announced during the 2013 annual Base Camp Exercise, when Storm Services made the first contribution. Though this fund donates to a range of organizations throughout the year, we have continued the tradition of choosing a special charity to give to during the exercise.
We wanted to share a little with you about KAIR and thought the best way to do so was in the words of United Way, who features them as a partner:
Every single day, KAIR makes a difference in someone's life. Often, new clients come to KAIR asking for food but come away with much more...because they do a full needs assessment and have the ability to provide flexible assistance, arranging housing, a job, or help with daycare, helping get IDs and government assistance and more, can all start with a client asking for a bit of food.
KAIR staff and volunteers see themselves as problem solvers as well as facilitators and they are often the one stable place a client can to turn to during a chaotic time in their life. Approximately 45 people visit KAIR each day and, in addition to receiving resources, each person who comes receives a well thought out plan to help address their situation.
