HURRICANE FLORENCE
In September, Hurricane Florence became the first major hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season. It was a mighty storm that caused severe damage in both North Carolina and South Carolina. Florence made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane on September 14th just south of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, bringing heavy rainfall and flooding with it.
Prior to landfall, the Storm Services logistics team and the Storm Services Engineering team was staged in order to rapidly respond to the needs of our clients in the Carolinas. Our equipment was mobilized for the potential response of a large scale disaster. Following state and federal declarations of emergency, our team moved in to help with relief efforts.
Continued rainfall and road closures due to flooding proved to be a challenge for those responding to the storm. However, the team persisted and safely arrived to respond to the disaster. Our damage assessment and lineman teams were deployed, while our logistics team set up over twenty base camp sites.
