THE SAFEST PLACE TO WEATHER ANY STORM
Continuing the education of our team members is very important to us here at Storm Services. Because of this, we come together at least once a year to train our team members. To kick off this year’s training, our Storm Services Engineering team leads gathered in York, Alabama, back in May. For three days, the team leads learned and discussed information that they will be able to take back to train our other team members. Check out the slideshow from the meeting here.

Following the successful training meeting in May, Storm Services hosted our annual Base Camp Exercise that took place in the beginning of June at our facility in Alabama. There are two reasons Storm Services continues to host the exercise. The first purpose is to bring in our team members for training. The second purpose is to host our customers to give them a tour of our Alabama facility, let them meet our team members, and view our equipment.

This year, over 130 team members from across the country attended the event, which began on Tuesday, June 7th, with a small training session dedicated to our outstanding catering group. Later that night, Storm Services hosted the entire team at our annual kickoff dinner. This year, the theme was “Denim, Diamonds, and Disasters.” Each team member participated by arriving dressed in denim, dressed fancy in diamonds, or dressed in an outfit inspired by a disaster, such as Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz” or as Jim Cantore from The Weather Channel. Check out the pictures from this fun event!

The theme for our exercise was “Storm Services: The safest place to weather ANY storm.” The following day, team members participated in the numerous training sessions that helped prepare them for ANY storm, including a CPR/AED Certification Course, and a forklift training session. Nanette Hitchcock guided the group through the “Be a Leader, Not a Boss” training session, which furthered the leadership skills of each team member. Charlie Evans lead the “Safety in Any Storm” training session, which helped team members prepare for the different safety situations they may face when working a tornado, ice storm, fire, flood, earthquake, or hurricane. Bruce Schwartz lead the “Hook it Up” training session that reinforced the safety measures that should be taken when hooking up our equipment. We had a successful day of both training and team building!

Customers who arrived Wednesday night were hosted at our annual “Meet and Greet” in Meridian, Mississippi. We enjoyed the opportunity to talk with those arriving, and learn more about their “storm” roles and needs. The following day, around 200 customers arrived at our facility, where the morning began with coffee and light breakfast items. Customers toured our facility and equipment before gathering for a question and answer session. At the exercise, customers participated in an activity that helped raise money for The Refinery. The Refinery was created in 2013 to sustain the home of Still Waters, a safe place for women and their children in Georgia. These women make hand-poured, soy candles. All proceeds from the sales of The Refinery go to Still Waters. The Storm Services Charitable Fund has donated $5,000 to The Refinery. Learn more about this great non-profit organization by visiting their website at www.therefineryga.com.

We ended the day with a delicious lunch prepared by our catering team that was served under a dining tent, complete with a HVAC system that kept us cool. As customers left, they took a goodie bag that had a special treat in it; a custom Storm Services candle made by the women of The Refinery. It truly was a wonderful day! Thank you to all of you that attended, which gave us the opportunity to show you why we are “the safest place to weather any storm.” If you missed it, you can see photos from the event here. We hope to see you all next year!
